Lonely Planet: Best in Travel 2016

I co-authored Lonely Planet's newest "Best in Travel" book, which details the hottest places on the planet to visit in 2016. After around a decade of writing these coffee table books I can honestly say that this edition is by far my favorite, with some really creative and truly trending destinations around the globe.

Travel + Leisure: Riga On Your Radar

Latvia's capital was founded in the 1200s with multicultural roots, and remains a wonderfully cosmopolitan destination today--even through the Soviet regime it was a place of progress and art. It's like the Baader Meinhof phenomenon: suddenly you're hearing the word "Catskills" everywhere. But is it actually a trick of the mind? Maybe the Catskills - after being forgotten for decade - is making a serious comeback by appealing to both the nature lover and secret Brooklyn aesthete in all of us.
